House on the Lake

NEW CONSTRUCTION OF A WEEKEND HOUSE

The weekend house is located on a scenic lakeside property about 40km of Frankfurt / Main. During the first site visit only generic weekend houses attracted our attention. Although they meet the regulations, they are architecturally less appealing. In the nature reserve a volume on the base surface of 50 sqm could be realized with only one full storey and without basernent.

The design maximize a light-flooded continuurn of space. The overall volume is organised by three cubes of different size and height. The upper floor covers only 3/4 of the footprint and therefore it is not counted as a full storey. The design thus creates a rnaxirnurn usable area in compliance with the legal requirernents.

On the ground level an open common space for living and dining is created by the spatial adjustment of the volumes and their different heights. The upper level contains two bedrooms separated by sliding doors.

The facade is covered with vertical planks of larch with various width.
